Tom Waits, who was recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame, has posted a picture of some lyrics scrawled on a chalkboard on his official site – leaving fans to wonder if we are about to hear some new material.
With the news fresh on our minds, Last.fm Trends takes a look back at the influential musician to see how Last.fm listeners have scrobbled him.
The Californian musician did release the live album Glitter and Doom Live in 2009, it has been nearly five years since we heard any new material.
The GRAMMY-nominated three-disc Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers and B*stards was released in late 2006 and has been scrobbled 605,037 times. None of the tracks, however, appear in Waits’ latest top weekly tracks chart, with listeners staying familiar with tracks from Waits earlier output.
Top of the pile is the track “Jockey Full Of Bourbon” which was listened to by 2,128 listeners last week. The song, like many of Waits’ songs, was used in the opening scene of the 1986 film Down By Law – which Waits also starred in.
An incredible prolific output means that Tom Waits has clocked up 51,215,682 scrobbles – a number which will most definitely grow significantly as Waits fans get their hands on new material.
